How God Called Us

Over the past 10 years, Jennifer and I have ministered to youth in our community and church in a variety of ways. In the most recent years, we had seen a rapidly growing number of children struggling with the effects of divorce, broken/blended, and dysfunctional families. In addition, we were seeing families inside and outside of our church falling apart all around us. We felt God calling us to minister to the entire family but we did not know how. We wanted to encourage all couples to set Jesus Christ as the foundation in their marriage and then to build solid, healthy, Christ-centered relationships within their family but we didn't know how to practically do family ministry.

In November of 2009 Jennifer and I attended FamilyLife's Weekend to Remember and it was a turning point in our life.

With FamilyLife, we found a ministry that was teaching the biblical principles about how to build a godly marriage and family. We said to each other over that weekend, "Wow, if we could get all of the couples that we know to experience this, it would transform families everywhere!"

God also showed us at the Weekend to Remember that we had some work to do within our own marriage. We did not realize how quickly \“life\” got in the way of our relationship. I was pouring myself into my business, Jennifer was at home full time with our 2 small children in addition to working part time at our church as the Youth Director. We found ourselves collapsing on the couch each night after the kids were in bed with nothing left over for each other. It was at the Weekend to Remember that we saw just how far apart we had drifted over the last 5 years.

After that weekend, we made some pretty significant changes. We put God back as our first love and priority. We hired a regular babysitter every other week so we could go out on a date. We took the biblical blueprints that FamilyLife had presented on our dates. We talked about how we were doing and then discussed what changes we still needed to make. It is scary to think about where our relationship was headed had God not intervened through FamilyLife. Unfortunately, we believe many couples can relate to our story. There are so many couples just coasting through marriage trying to survive in this fast-paced, over-worked world. There are so many pressures, stresses and distractions that are pulling families apart instead of encouraging them to grow together.

God has placed a passion in our hearts for families. We want to see all husbands and wives build their marriage and family on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ! We are honored to be involved with a ministry that is doing just that!

I am excited to use the skills that God has given me through my career and business ownership in the Telecommunications and Internet Services Industries for his purpose. FamilyLife is responding to the growing need to use the Internet and technology in a variety of ways to reach families and marriages where they are at, in a positive manor.

Changed lives. That's what people discover after engaging with FamilyLife their lives and marriages are changed dramatically for the better.

And that's the mission of FamilyLife, to help people change the world one home at a time. Created on the principle that the family provides the foundation for society, the ministry offers a wide range of tools to help families become stronger. Tools that help you communicate more lovingly and effectively. Tools that help you rekindle the romance. Tools that help you become the very best parent you can be. By offering tools for change, FamilyLife empowers people to live in love instead of in anger. And thus the world is changed, one home at a time.

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25
